Hi

We're looking to buy our first horsebox.

Budget around £6k, so am looking at older lorries 6-7.5 tonnes.

Am reading posts about Iveco parts being hard to get hold of, but am not sure what the difference between Iveco Cargo, Eurocargo etc is and what particular Iveco it's hard to get parts for.

Am going to look at a very well looked after Iveco 0813 Cargo next week, old G Reg, but has lots of service history paperwork - is this a model that's hard to get parts for?

Also, do you prefer Iveco, DAF or MAN and why and which ones have the best turning circle (have a tight turn into our gates!!)

Huge thank you for your help ?

Iveco are bad for rusting/corroding...that's the grand sum of my knowledge about horseboxes!

I've had an Iveco for 8 years no problems (yet!) - I think it is a 2001 model? Haven't needed many parts. Was high mileage TNT lorry converted - I bought when the horse body was new

Loved my DAF 150 - the 120s and 130s are underpowered. Always wanted a 170 for real power. Best turning circle ever. Never had a problem with parts and because it was pre 2001, it didn't have to have a speed restrictor on either!

Used to drive a friend's Iveco - it was much more compact than my DAF but had a huge turning circle. The clutch was vey heavy too.

Driven a MAN -never again - hated it. It gave a very wallowy ride.

I love my Iveco, had 3 of them, give a smooth ride for the horses too, won't buy another make

Best advise drive all, if you can stand in the back and move around see which gives the smoothest feel

Yes OH says Iveco gives most stable ride - as above get them well checked over, Ivecos do rust but a lot will depend on how they have been looked after over the years. Don't know about parts for those ones. Am sure you will, but get a weight certificate with it so you know what scope you have for carrying horses, people, equipment etc. Would agree the clutch etc is much heavier than on the only Daf I have every driven which had a gear lever much more like a car but a change of gear oil and regular use makes it much easier.
