Who's got one, or had one and how do/did you rate it?? Hope I've done the right thing....my reliable old fourtrack will cost more than she's worth to fix up and MOT this year, landie defenders are just a RIDICULOUS price!!! I am not paying over 3 grand for a 20 year old car!! Every disco I've looked at in my price range is a rust bucket!!.....looked for another fourtrack - couldn't find one less than 200 miles away!! so I have happened upon a trooper 3.1td, really reasonably priced (I refuse to pay lots for a flash new 4x4 which is just used for pootling about and towing to local shows) drives nice - comfy when compared to the fourtack -But I hate change!!! I love my lil fourtack and I hope the trooper can live up to her!!

Love mine!!!! Drives brill, Tows fab... what more can you say really, there are still loads of old ones on the road (including mine!!) so shows their longevity, they don't rust like land rovers do (sorry to any landy drivers!!) Can't rate them high enough!

I love Tommy Trooper! :D:D:D

Mine is the 3.1 as well - tows two large horses and a trailer up a cliff if necessary. Isn' to bad on the diesel as you don't go to fast in it! Troppers are built to last - and even though they aren't being made anymore there is no problem with parts or anything. Tommy is 15 years old and cost 400 quid for a service, MOT and a few repairs this year.:D

:(:( Sold ours recently it was a citation which was top of the range. I loved it but needed a car to go up and down to South coast a lot so needed a car that didn't use quite so much fuel. But I really miss it it did cost a lot over the last two years which we had fixed so someone's got a really good motor and we didn't get much for it. But they will pull a house down (as the saying goes).:) They are better that the fourtrack and the Discovery I have had both the Isuzu Troopers are the best.:p

Love mine, Shes called Suzi of course and Ive owned her now for just about 6 yrs. As above, fab to drive and tow with.. Shes a 3.1 turbo diesel N reg and apart from the usual sorts of things, not had a problem. Does help that my OH is an RAC man and gives her a little tlc now and then. Just failed MOT for first time but only on minor things, and actually OH has done the required jobs so she will be back next week for the re-test. I also use her for my Rugwash business and she had as many as 48 rugs in at once. A proper workhorse and I will be very upset when she dies.

The 3.1 is the one to have. The later 3.0 TD engines suffer injection problems (expensive) whilst the earlier 3.1's are well-proven for reliability and will run forever if properly looked after.

Check for off-road abuse and rust underneath. Imports will not have the same rust protection as UK models (it was sold as a Vauxhall Montery in the UK).

Also, the V6 petrol engines are very thirsty!

Have to add its one of the best cars I have had. Shes like a tank and was very good in the snow. Some folk at my yard have newer 4x4's like L200, Range Rovers but Im not interested atall in updating. Not that I want to spend £1000's. While ever she runs she will stay!!

I bought a Vauxhall Monterey after recommendations on here and I love her! Mine is an S reg 3.1 diesel LWB and my first towing vehicle (in a metallic red just a little lighter than the HHO band so is named Ruby Tuesday :D). I would say that it is great to learn to tow in as it is very stable and has more than enough power, which is exactly what I needed, and I feel very confident towing even though I'm not very experienced. The only problem is she isn't great on hill starts when the ground isn't good, but has never failed me in 4x4 mode. One slight problem for me has been learning to reverse a trailer with such a long vehicle, not ideal for learning, but I'm getting there and I guess if I can do it with this, I will be able to do it with anything :)

I had an import version (the 'bighorn' - never failed to raise a snigger but Im puerile like that). I loved it, it was super reliable and towed brilliantly. Can't recall why I sold it now, possibly got bored with the colour and the fact the radio was **** :)
