we have a cat that isdue to give birth any day now.
the problem is that we have a JR terrier and she kills the kitterns as soon as they are born. (the cats normally give birth in the kitchen when we go out, coz we accidently shut them in there, and thats where we put the dogs in there when we go out)

any ideas on what we can do?

Neuter the cats

....why on earth would you allow them to keep having kittens for the dog to kill

Keep the dogs and cat seperate - end of. Don't ask daft questions - keep them seperate. If the cat always goes in the kitchen to give birth find somewhere else to keep the dog until she had had her kittens.

Once she has had her kittens either have her spayed - or find someone who will look after her responsibly - and look after the kittens to.

I guess it is still school holidays......

I read this post earlier and have to admit I didn't reply cos I thought it was a wind up! This is the same person whose GSD kept getting out of the garden and that post was a little strange too. If this is a genuine post then I can only echo what others say, just keep the JR out of the kitchen until the cat has had her kittens, then get the poor thing to the vets and have her spayed!

Ummm don't 'accidentially' shut the cats in with the JRT.

Get the cats speyed as you obviously can't be bothered to look after the ones you have, so why breed more??

thanks guys. but at the end of the day we can't help it if the cats sneak in the kitchen when we go out. and as 4 geting them spayed we cant cuz they always get caught again as soon as they go out. we try to jeep them in but u can't keep a cat locked up inside all the time, they go out when we let the dogs out.

any way piebaldSparkle what makes you think i can't be bothered to look after them. i look after my pets allthe same. with love and respect.

if people are going to commment then i would appreciate good advice and not people having a go at me by saying i cant be bothered.

OK..here is some ggod advice...if you are incapable of keeping them in...get them neutered whilst they are in kitten....you can get them done after being caught....and please don't say you don't agree with that.....because its a hell of a lot kinder than them being eaten by the dog.

If you keep waiting for your own sense to prevail..they will never get done

Somemore good advice...don't get anymore cats

I am sorry but still can't quite see how your cats can sneak in the kitchen. Surely if you checked they weren't in there when you left, and kept all windows shut they couldn't get in. Or alternatively keep the dogs out of the kitchen. If these kittens survive to weaning (or alternatively if they are sadly killed) please take the cats straight to the vets to be spayed, and if they have been caught on the kittening heat then so be it, at least it won't happen again.

Sorry but I think this is someone messing around. Cats are not stupid animals. I don't believe a cat would choose to sneak into the same room to have its litter where it knows a threat is present.
