Someone I know is looking for a JRT pup. I want to ensure he gets something with a really lovely temperament. He would like a largish type. Any recommendations? It would be helpful were there a litter in Herts, Watford area if poss. Obvioulsy, they will travel if necessary.

When you say largish are you talking parsons type - like Roly (ish)

Or longer legged trad jack like Lil?

Thanks :) I love the bones of them :D

Well when purchasing both dogs I had to sift through lots of those (IMO) poor bent leg types. I also wanted both parents to be pets rather than workers, although Roly was bought from a farm his parents didn't work per se.
I think this and a family setting in both cases, helped them be really well rounded jacks. Of course they are not perfect but by and large, I can trust them to never fight, snap or be yappy. Which were all things I was worried about when choosing a jack.

Lil came from a family in Hereford, Roly from the Rhondda valleys :D neither were breeders, just people who had had litters. It's a little frowned upon I know, but I didn't want to go down the pedigree/parsons line so that's what happened.

My only advice, try for slightly older puppies. Roly was brought home too early (7-8 weeks) and Lil was about 11-12 weeks.

He is the oddest little critter going :D

My first two (liver and white in sig) were from Hereford: the OH is from there and wanted that particular size and shape like his childhood dog. They were 7 weeks when we got them, easiest dogs I've ever encountered!

Try the National Working Terrier Federation http://www.terrierwork.com/

or Fell and Moorland Terrier Club.

Thanks, will pass on the links.
