Had a few PMs so as a follow up to my other post, here we go
smile.gif

Hes still being quite naughty to catch. Well actually, its not catching him thats hard but dragging him over the fields is. He stops every few strides to snort in the direction of the stables. It took me a good 30 minutes yesterday to get him in ;p

However! Huge progress on his stable behaviour! Hes now eating from his food trough with no problems. Hes also hanging his head over the wall when we go in and greeting people rather than staring at the door. When I went in to turn them out this morning, he was dozing at the back of his stable and he'd layed down in the night also.

When i put him out, he lingered around the gate until i went and got the donks (even though theyre still in seperate fields.) Hes also grazing very close to their field all the time. He even nickered at them last night when they came in!

Sooooooooo, i think we have progress! We're splitting the winter turnout this week so they can be right next to each other. Hopefully that will go well too.

Thanks for everyone who has sent me PMs asking how he is and those who made suggestions in the first place. He now has a radio in the stable also which i left on until lights out last night.

Oh and yes, the donks are still rolling on concrete

ETA:- VERY annoyed at the old owners of this place. Not only did they not muck out their poor donkeys for god knows how long but they left behind their cats when they moved. They came back for one of them the day after (a ginger tom) but they claimed the little female tabby was vicious and they couldnt catch her.. but they'd be back.

My OH phoned them today asking them to cancel their TV subscription so we can take it over and the old owner asked if we'd seen the tabby. My OH said Id been feeding her last week but she vanished at the weekend. We had *assumed* they'd come and taken her tbh. Anyway, they hadnt and he also announced he'd had the beautiful ginger tom PTS as he was wee'ing in their new apartment. He's a farm cat fgs! My OH asked if they even wanted the little female and they said they would be having her PTS also. Needless to say, we've told them to leave her alone and we'll have her. Ive not seen her since the weekend but ive put some food out for her now

If theyd just told us they didnt really want the cats, we'd have kept them fgs!

The tom was beautiful too :*(

Soooooo in total, they left us with 1 wheel barrows of [****], a broken dishwasher, two front doors that wont lock, 2 donkeys, a cat and endless amounts of crap :*(

Glad to hear Jack's beginning to show signs of settling

let's hope it gets easier from here on out
very sad and rotten about the cat

Good news about Jack!! You seem to be doing well! Just thought I'd say my horse is a b*ggar to catch! I got my parelli instructor out about a month ago, and she taught me a few things to do. The one that is working is the carrot game. I take about 6 carrots in the field with me. I walk around the back of henry and follow him around until he has two eyes on me, then i turn away and break a piece of carrot for him and throw it his way so he will learn that being near me is a good thing. Its working, and now henry is getting so close he'll eat the carrots out of my hand and just follow me to the gate without leadrope. One of his problems though was that he was terrified for that split sec that you grab his head collar and thought I was a predetor. So i don't touch the head collar, its all about following

Maybe try something like that if you have time...

Sorry about long post.

Good news on the Jack/Donks front

You didn't buy your house off the same people we did? Our vendors said they were emigrating!

Came in quite easily today (in early as i think we have snow coming!)

I think ive found out why jack isnt keen on the doors also. While i was fiddling in one of the other stables, i heard voices and hooves. One of the ladies in the village has been bringing her pony and kids down to say hi to the donks. Jack went MENTAL when he saw them through the glass panels on the door.

Hes now back in the stable next to the donkeys as this puts him furthest away from the doors. When i left he was rumaging around muching a bit of his bed.

Hoping being right away from them now helps a bit but my OH is going to replace the glass in the doors for me. Its going to cut the daylight that comes into the barn but at least i know once the doors are closed, he wont be getting visiters scaring him ;p

I'm so glad he is starting to settle. I bet before too long he and the donks will be best of pals. Hope the little cat turns up, what a shame they didn't give you a chance to keep the ginger one too.
