Just wondering if anyone has a jaguar saddle and how have you found it fit wise etc. I have been looking a jumping one recently. There seems to be lots of feedback on some makes of saddle here on HHO but haven't seen much on these. Thanks.

Don't know if this helps but I have been told that whilst they are a comfy saddle for the rider they are not so good for the horses back.

I haven't got one or ever had one , but its something my instructer feels very strongly about, but thats not so say thats right

Great for rider crap for horse. If you look at the panels at the back they are 'cut in' instead of spreading the weight over a larger area. Have a look at one and you'll see what I mean.

Had heard it mentioned once briefly that they weren't so hot for backs so thanks for confirming that and the reason. They are the big thing around me at the moment and you can't seem to find anyone who isn't raving about them at the moment.

Tell that to them when their horses all have problems in a few months time! Unfortunately horses do seem to go well in them to start with then the problems start.........................

Most horses will go well in a new saddle to begin with, especially if old saddle was not a good fit (this is 99% the case as otherwise wouldnt need a new saddle!) The reason for this is that the horse will naturally adjust its way of going to compensate for the retriction of the old saddle. Put a new saddle on, and 99% of the time it doesnt restrict the horse in the same way. Suddenly have a new horse. 1 month later, the horse has adjusted its way of going in a different way, to compensate for a new restriction caused by the new saddle. Sometimes it is worse than the original saddle and sometimes not.

Also, bear in mind that over the space of a few months the horse's shape can change dramatically and what previously was a well fitting saddle no longer fits and then real problems can start.

Thanks for the replies, understand completely and agree with what you say CBAnglo.

What sort of saddle would you recommend Moggy? one of the biggest yards near to me is an international event yard and has been using them for about three years now I'd say, will see if they have noticed more problems though they had problems before I believe so....

Sometimes I get despondant coming on here though hearing about marvellous saddle fitters and lots of saddle options. Here in the the south of Ireland we are so far behind and any kind of saddle fitter is hard to come by and even the best make/model/type of saddle is no use if you can't get it adjusted when it needs to be.Ahhh.

I'd look at Kieffers as they can be sent anywhere that has the machine to adjust them and they are good saddles.

Im suprised to hear that about Jaguar Saddles. Im not a great fan but my saddle is a Jaguar dressage, mainly because of my horses awkward conformation and that this make or Amerigo had the debated sweeping back, which allowed him to have the 17 inch he needed and let me have a bit more room. Ive had it 4 yrs now and weve had no problems, it can and has been altered (widenned) so Ive had no need to change saddles.
I could be totally wrong here but dont most makes of jumping saddle have a sweeping back?
