Gosh, this is going to be such a long shot but does ANYONE know this person? Golly, I'm not even sure if I am allowed to do this but I am so so desperate.
I have just called Farmkey who have told me they have 3 registered owners for George, including me, which is exactly as I thought. He had the person who got him marked, then Jane for approximately 4 years, then he was put out on loan in late 2001/early 2002 and sold by someone with surname McGowan to me in Nov 2002 (owner of yard who sold him to recoup her losses when livery was not paid) and then me for the last 6 years!
The first owner had him marked in Dec 1993 and they have to be at least 1 year old to be marked. But Farmkey say between 1 and 18 months old. I was sold him as an 8 year old but the vetting told me he was at least 9 (aged by his teeth), as did the Farmkey stuff, plus the year he had to be to be marked, so about 10 at least. I didn't mind this. However, experience has told me that a lot of people don't get their horses marked as yearlings - we bought Sparkle aged 3 and had her marked when she was 4! I am aware that some people just buy horses and decide to get them done.
I really want to know some history about G. The Farmkey woman says his first registered owner was in Leicestershire area. So if you live in the Leicestershire area and ever had a dark bay gelding called George (possibly he's had different names before), marked with 7VA3, alleged to be a Welsh D with papers that have gone awol, but could be any kind of cob as far as I am concerned as you don't look at him and immediately think WELSH D, can you get in touch!? Hehe.
When I bought G I was able to contact Jane as I was given her number by the woman I bought him from. She told me she'd done jumping with G but got an injury so put him out on loan. She didn't deny or confirm that he was around 10 years old but then I don't remember talking to her at length about it. She obviously bought him from the person in Leicestershire, but did the leicestershire person buy him from another person who'd not had him marked? Or did they buy him from a breeder as a foal? She was distraught that we'd bought him but hadn't been able to afford to pay the livery for the person who'd taken him on loan. Poor woman
The Farmkey lady said they can write to previous owners for a fee of £15, but I am betting that at least his first owner has moved house by now!
Help if you can, please. I am sure someone here may know of Jane Welsh. She was in the Bridgwater area in the early part of this decade but I think she has moved now.
