A friend has moved his mare and foal nearer to the farm for supplementary feeding before stabling and weaning (farm definitely in bad weather zone) unfortunately mare and foal can reach to nibble at this weed and he is concerned for their safety and no-one seems to know if it is dangerous or not.
Any opinions please?
His other sheltered paddock is out of use due to large crop of acorns!!

I dont believe so, after a bit of searching on the internet it is pallatable to horses, sheep and other animals, and is spread by said animals. Aparently it is giant herb.

Maybe electrically tape it off to be sure.

I definatley know it is hellishly difficult to get rid off, and to do so is very expensive as it is classed as contaminated waste.

Hope that helps.

It is illeagle to have it on your land

I dont understand how it is illegal to have it on your land ...

"It is only one of two terrestrial plants dealt with by the current version of the UK Wildlife and Countryside Act under which it is illegal to cause it to grow in the wild."

However I take it that if your crop causes the spread of the JK onto wild land you will be liable.
