For those of you who remember me posting about my last horse with his pedal bone problems might remember that several vets advised he was put to sleep. He couldn't live a normal pain free life even in the field. So even though it broke my heart, that's what I did.

A year and a bit on my second horse has been diagnosed with his pedal bone being at the wrong angle to the pastern joint resulting in strain in his surrounding ligaments. He was mildly lame and has had corrective shoeing with a small wedge to remedy this. Has been sound and vet advised all clear to continue riding and competing. Over Xmas he went slightly lame again. Within this time I had relocated counties and so called new vet, after lameness work up, nerve blocks and xrays he finds pedal bones in both front feet at extreme angles to the pastern. An obvious confirmation fault that could only be detected from xrays as feet look good from the outside. Vet has now advised he will never stand up to strenuous work, jumping etc and might only be field sound. My dream horse in a million at 6 years old is broken... :(

Going down the route of corrective shoeing again but still not sound.

Basically I'll keep him for life (he's worthless now anyway!!) but it's just depressing. Owning horses never gets any easier does it?!

aww this is terrible news indeed , i didn't see your last post , but i can imagine how heart broken you must have been and for lightening to have now struck twice is really bad luck. Unfortunately legs and feet are so prone to problems which , once manifested , can sometimes never be fixed . Keep your chin up and hopefully your horse may remain sound for hacking or at the very least field sound so hopefully you wont have to make any heart breaking decisions yet.
