Well, day didnt go quite as I had it planned out!!!

The lovely person who'd offered to give me a lift couldnt start her lorry so had a bit of a panic and phoned trusty Faye who runs Roman Horse Transport and bless her heart, she was out within the hour and we managed to get there, all be it slightly late!!
Watched a couple go and they very kindly let me slot in a bit later in the class. We only did the PN and I was disappointed that it wasnt built up to height, Moon found the height way too easy but at l;east there's plenty to look at with JAS.

The warm-up area was a nightmare- people stood chatting right in the way so I jumped 3 times and gave up and went in. Bless her, we're both very ring rusty, havin not competed for 4 months or something ridiculous like that. So as a result I rode pretty cr*p just when she needed me the most. She's very sensitive in the mouth so if I make an over-correction, she reacts by putting her head up and she hasnt quite learnt that sometimes that means she cant see the jump. It happened at no. 2(shall post a vid in gallery) but she was very honest and cleared it by a bloomin mile but she wasnt so lucky at the last and we had a stupid run-out. I let her run on into it, it was a skinny parallel thing and then checked her as she wasnt quite straight and she threw her head up and ran right.

Oh well, rest of it was good and over-all I was very pleased with her confidence and the feel she gave.
Got pretty bad style marks as predicted but at least we had fun!!!

Video will go in gallery if I can get it to work, here's some pretty bad stills.....

This is no.2- its hard to see but her knees are right folded up so she's giving it some air!

Well done sounds really promising. Very spooky for a novice particularly if you haven't been out for a while so you must be really pleased. What next?

Any idea who won what?

Oh well done Boss. She is coming on nicely.

Looks like a jet taking off over some of those lol positively FLYING!

So pleased you managed to get there, well done Roman horse transport!!!

Look forward to seeing your vid.

Vx

XC schooling is the most pressing issue I think- I'd like to do the novice class JAS at WW but think she'd get more benefit from xc schooling if we're going to be reasonably competitive early season.
Trying to think who won..... think may have been Georgie Spence, I'm pretty sure she won the novice anyway....

Thanks- sometimes she gives them so much room for no apparent reason. It feels bl**dy nice though!!
I'm pleased with her progress, just kicking myself for not being switched on enough

Bless her she is flying. It was a good experience for her even if you had a couple of hiccups. Where are you thinking of going XC schooling? I'm dying to go to Downlands.

Arghh twas your first show in so long tho, dont beat yourself up about it. You hardly had a relaxing start to the day either!!

You should be really proud of her, shes turning into a bold little cookie when other more seasoned horses find JAS terrifying lol

If I can get transport then west wilts, Stockland Lovell and Downlands.
Probs Downlands foirst as can take Floss there too for baby jumps- will require a lead if you want to come with.....

Yes please. Hattie will jump anything providing it isn't too big. The baby fences would be fine for her.

you should be pleased with that. I didn't think the course was built very nicely. The blue stile in the SJ was just plain weird, it was a long way from the planks.

Georgie Spence scored a 1 for her style i the Novice. She also got totally dumped by Song for Gull, but still got a 7 for style...

What was also naughty was that people were entering HC in the class before and then jumping competively in the next class. Umlike Show jumping you were allowed to do that. So if anyone is thinking of entering JAS and feel like a practice first do the smaller class before as well.

We had similar problems to you, my sisters lorry wouldn't start. So we had to take mine, which wasn't taxed and meant having to drive into Bath first to get it. 3 lorries on the farm and the most reliable one is the oldest.

It wasn't Spot's day and he had 2 fences down in both classes but got inside the time.

I am so pleased for Georgie.
I met her back in 2003 at Holdenby, when it was her 2nd ever event on her little ex sjing coloured pony.
She was from SJing background - they arrived in a lorry enough for 6 horses, but pulled out a dinky pony lol
Since then shes gone from strength to strength.

Thats really unlike Spot too

I guess JAS is just very different. Shame Addington dont run the event as a qualifier tbh! mind you, they would probably fit about 30 fences in there

Spot came 2nd in the Novice last year though. He really looked at the one Moon didn't like and completly flattened it. It looked really empty at the Hand today, hardly any jumps in there.

I thought he did well last year! ahh I guess even the best have off days.

I am sure they have dropped the number of fences that they use. The first year Solihull (which is a fair sized arena) was pretty packed!

Oh Moonie! Bless her cottons, she does look as tho it was a *her way* day! Still, 1 run out isnt bad at all, and the size is prob an issue as in ts not demanding enough - not a bad day at all!

Bless her heart, the warm up at the Hand is ludicrous, all that money on seating and nowhere to warm up properly

We are schooling today which is dull after all our plans.
So Moonie would be a perfect PC eventer next year for some kid stepping up from a 14hh?

Poor Spotty horse. I was shocked at the lack of fences- 15 is way too few imho for the money and the style of competition plus the PN was tiny, novice looked pretty generous too.

Laura Collet got 10 for style on a horse that stopped twice going into the road closed double and took 3 poles out.

HOW???!!!!!!

Yes, and her price just went down a little

Unfortunately I find JAS ridiculous as how are you supposed to know what you are trying to achieve?
Well done to moon - going from strength to strength. I think she would prefer to go to Cricklands!

After watching it this year I am really glad I didn't buy a ticket and enter it as I would have been so disappointed. The judges did seem to love certain people. and the course was not very nice. How can someone get completly dumped by their horse and then be given 5 out of 6 for horses attitude. Cath got a 3 out of 6 for her ringcraft and she was only 1 of 3 people to get inside the time. People scoring 6s for that were getting 10+ time faults.

If I had had transport probs like that, I know I would have been far too stressed to ride properly afterwards.

Well done - I'm sure she will be clear the next time, and the photos are great esp the second one where she is giving it a serious amount of air.
