I saw it on the Wednesday and it was brilliant! Even OH who is non-horsey enjoyed it (in fact he really likes the Police display team and even enjoyed the shetland derby...the only thin he hated was the not-so-famous person pas de deux!).
The horses I saw looked extremely happy and there is no way they would do this much, this willingly if they were unhappy. Their ears flicked all over the place, including back but for me that is part of normal horsey communication (and much more likely to be directed at the other horses which were very close than J-F). None of their horses I saw had their ears pinned right back in aggression.
Going against the rest of you here, I hated it, thought the horses looked almost like the had been sedated, ears back when he went near them & when the little chestnut refused to bow he really walloped it with the handle end of the lunge whip. Thought the horses generally looked sour & unhappy, know idea how he does it & something makes me not want to, it made me feel uncomfortable.
Yeah would agree- never seen a group of horses who looked so unhappy in their work- ears flat back trying to bite each other and a couple of raised legs. Noticed lunge whip catching the tips of the horses ears a few time so maybe that is why- if you have ever caught yourself with a lunge whip it certainly strings!! Didnt enjoy it at all... But interesting!
I was there Thursday night and didn't feel comfortable watching it. I agree with Kizzywiz and Chops that the horses looked unhappy, kept trying to bite each other and they did look sour. The chestnut in particular looked seriously peed off. Not my idea of fun!
