Yes probably, I had just heard it on TF1 when i posted this.
We can understand them being devastated as he had a chance of getting a medal and now it'll be hard for them to get team gold with the Aussies and the Brits so strong
It also says on H&H news that this flared up a bit some weeks ago... if that's true, I can't quite believe they took the horse tbh. the Brits have learnt the hard way in the past that if it's not 100% sound, it doesn't matter how brilliant it is, unfortunately!
As a matter of fact, I just read (a couple of minutes ago and somewhere hard to find !) that the horse had kind of an alert with a "very light fetlock sprain" during training in Granville, Normandy.
If this is true, I agree with you both: How stupid to take him to HK
Horse did have a very small sprain during training. The selectors +the rider and owner with the federal vet debated over the decision to send him over or not... And decided to take the chance after vet said it was doable. Horse traveled well and arrived sound, but that gallop in HK started it up again.
For stakes as high as the olympics and being so far away from home (long and tiring transport for the horse), this is is definitely mismanagement on the part of the staff.
