I know this has probably been done to death, so apologies in advance...

I'm on the hunt for a jeep for towing in ROI. I've seen a few I like but I'm unsure of what would be most suitable. Backstory - I have a 3/4 bred 16hh mare (around 650kg) and a foal (8 months - not going anywhere for the foreseeable). I would like to be able to bring my mare to a few local shows over the summer but dont have the jeep or horsebox yet. Plan is to get the jeep sorted first and then look at the box, as the car I have is giving up slowly on me!!

I've done a bit of research on towing capacities, mostly on towingcapacity.co.uk but am open to correction on the different weights. So far my choices include:

2015/2016 VW Tiguan 2.0L diesel 150bhp - 2,200kg capacity I think - from what I've read so far this is my top choice
2013/2014/2015 Audi Q3 2.0L diesel 140bhp 2,000kg capacity
2016/2017 Mitsubishi Outlander 2.3L diesel 2,000kg capacity

I would like something bigger but it's going to be my day to day car too, so I would like almost a cross between a 4x4 and a car if that makes sense. Would have loved a Touareg or Land Cruiser but running them is just out of my budget at the moment. I'm open to any others people may suggest that would be similar kind of size/price as the above three.

I'd love to hear recommendations on tow vehicles or anyone's experience with the above (good and bad!!). Thank you!

I'm looking at swapping my Disco 3 for something a little smaller and more reliable. You have mentionned two that I'm considering. Also worth looking at the Nissan X-trail and Skoda Octavia. The Tiguan is my top choice at moment too, followed by the X-trail. I've had disco's for years but it's getting too expensive to run and I don't tow as much as I did.
