having put together a complete jeffries bridle from parts, ive had nothing but trouble.

Firstly I was disapointed with the quality and had to literally soak it in oil before it stopped coming up grey and hard after 1 use.

Then, i decided to replace my grakle with a cavesson. My horse was in a cob size jeffies grakle - so i bought a cob sized cavesson (tie down). It wouldnt even meet round his nose! So i made the 1 hour journey back to the tack shop and swapped it for a full size. The full size is too big!

So much so, that even if i punched extra holes in it, Id have a ridiculously long tail end sticking out!

The shop I bought it from doesnt 'do' refunds either, and it wasnt cheap!

Anyone else had similar probs?

no sorry I have a jefferies bridle that I love for my cob size pony and have had two different nosebands both cob size that fit really nicely. Is it a traditional or falcon bridle? Mine is a traditional but some one i know has a falcon and I don't really like it.

I have a traditional bridle for my cob and it fits a treat. Had to get an extra full noseband but the rest of it is perfect, it's fantastic quality and very smart, it's havanna with white stitching. Hardly had to do any oiling when I got it in fact Jeffries recommend their own product for cleaning/conditioning the leather it's lovely and soft (has the flesh coloured back) and although it's kept for 'best' it's hardly been used, I would definitely get another if I needed to but hope this will last for many years to come!
If you go on their web site they have a chart with all the measurements for all the parts and you can buy all the parts individually so you can tailor the fit.

If you take it back to the shop again take a noseband that fits your horse to compare with others in the shop to get a good fir so you don't have to go back again...

I had a Jeffries I R bridle for my birthday! I love it and it even fits my large Clydesdale X Highland who has a 29" nose!

The quality is fantastic and soft and supple.

Falcon is not their "budget" range - Wembley is. Falcon is the old superior range prior to premier and elite.
I am a true fan of jeffries - and have a number of jeffries bridles, but have to say that I am not terribly happy with my latest falcon purchase either.
Incendtly when I had sizing problems with a jeffries item bought through a shop that "didnt do refunds" jeffries exchanged it for me themselves. That was when a cob breastplate was too big for my cob & too big for my 16.3 warmblood!

Caspers bridle is a Jeffries hun - don't know what range it's from as it came with him - it's ok for everyday use but does not scrub up well - I prefer his Kincade one with the thick nose band - only cost me about £20 and that was with 2 sets of reins!!

I am a huge fan of Jeffries leatherwork and it is the only make I know will fit the head of my huge ID mare. I am always impressed with how quickly they soften up and of course, I would always prefer to buy British.

Jeffries do a leaflet which explains all the different sizes of their bridles.

an update -

it was a tie-down/crank cavesson I was trying to fit, and my boy is full size in length of his head, and edging to be more cob size round the nose. Becasue of the style of the crank, the FS-which i needed for the length of the cheeks, was too big round his nose and head really long spare bit of leather that stuck up.

We have now got a plain jeffries cavesson (rather than crank) which is full size, but because its a different style, the longer left-over bit of leather just tucks neatly into the keeper

regarding the quality. Now ive finally got the hang of cleaning it , im pleased... it needed as darn good oil to start with - inc new noseband- then worked in the glycerin saddle soap... and finally i got jeffries own leather care stuff to finish it off, and I admit, it come up luffley

... and stayed nice after use.
