I would love to see horses voted off the road, as then the various road authorities would have to provide alternative routes! If any group of road users had to be voted off I would like it to be those who flout the law - in my experience mostly cyclists and white van drivers. Not all of them are bad though.

Don't know about voting horses off the road, I was almost run off the road on Saturday followed by a stream of abuse- reported it to the police- wonder if they stopped him?????

Me too - I voted lorries - 3 went down our road the other day and it's a narrow country lane - not sure what need Sheep have for Deoderant (won't name which brand) - I'm sure there are better routes they could take!

Voted lorries too, They use our road all the time and its not big , its very twisty with bad corners , Nearly everyday I get almost wrote off with these big bloody monsters ! and now the road service are widening the bridge to accomadate these "things" !!

i agree with Sooty.....a complete network of bridleways, brilliant.

lorries? no we need them.....deliveries of every kind..including horse transport!

Pasha, the reason you find more lorries on little lanes these days is, apparently, down to SatNav taking the place of mapreading and common sense. I.E. the SatNav says 'this road will get you there, without taking into account the size of the road.

We have seen & heard of many lorries becoming stuck due to over-reliance on SatNav.

It's a shame there isn't an option of voting off intolerant people who can't accept that other people/modes of transport have as much right as they do to be on the roads.

You can email Jeremy Vine - email address at the side of the panel on the voting website. I've just done so, and the more of us do the better! (Along the lines of "spot the deliberate mistake - since when have horses substituted wheels for hooves??")

This is totally appalling!!

Everyone has a right to use the public highway............isnt this just typical of this country at the moment.......no wonder its a bad place for young people to grow up - its full of predjudice.

Rant over....

Since when has a horse or a caravan been a vehicle? Or have I missed something?

I was just thinking that myself........................muppets

To all those that voted lorries, how exactly do you think your food and just about everything else gets to your shop. My local Morrisons certainly doesn't have a rail link

My Dad is a lorry driver and certainly far more considerate and law abiding than the 2 twits i encountered at the weekend one on a motor bike and one in a Golf.

The whole Jeremy Vine thing makes my blood boil.

And to the stupid woman who phoned in last week demanding tractors not be allowed on her local COUNTRY road as she had to get her children to school, good luck being entirely self sufficient as that's what you are looking at if you remove tractors. Happy gardening, idiot.

OH had a good point - there is not one category that should be banned, because there are idiots that drive lorries just as there are idiots that ride motorbikes, horses etc. It is the 'idiots' that ought to be banned, not the mode of transport! (Actually he didn't say 'idiots' but I have had to edit it to make it HHO friendly

On a caravan forum I use, they are discussing this very poll and everyone is chipping in giving opinions on what shoud be voted off the roads. Not one person yet has said horses!!!

I live near a quarry and I have never had problems with lorries, seems to be car drivers - and not always boy racers. I allways wave & smile even if they dont slow in the hope they will in future and have drummed it into my daughter too. My daughter went on a Duke of Edinborough Hike a few months ago and her friends thought she was wierd because she couldnt stop putting her hand up to car drivers. I agree that intolerant people should be voted of the road. In the greater scheme of things what difference does having to wait a minute or two behind anothe vehicle make?

i voted caravans just so horse wont be voted off the roads otherwise i would never be able to ride out as have to use the roads to get to the bridles!

I'd vote cycles ~

They're silent, come in packs, ride 2/3 abreast, wear wierd clothes, are mostly arrogant ~ and they're the only mode of transport on our roads that aren't insured.

(Unless there's some naughties among us horsey road users that don't insure!)

I second the vote for cyclists - on Sunday I was passed by three blokes on cycles who didn't even say 'morning' to let me know they were there. I only knew cos horsey heard them (with her super-size ears). They were three abreast and barely gave us any room.

I did notice though, out of 11 people who hacked out from our yard on Sunday (in the cr*p weather) I was the only one wearing any hi-viz or even light coloured clothing.

I think cyclists have every right to use the roads as well. At least they aren't polluting the atmosphere. Think the Dutch roads with all their cycle paths are brilliant. In MHO what we need is a space at the sides of each road for horses/cyclists. There is a big move to cut down on the amount of fuels being used - why have we no space to use alternate transport?

with no option for school run mum mobiles i have voted bikes off the road!!

The final broadcast session of this is coming up shortly and from what JV said on the preview just now, horses seem to be near the top of the list ...

We all have experience of un-courteous or down-right dangerous road users, no matter what mode of transport we're using at the time. The high profile of this vote, which has been increased by the ads for it on the TV, makes me concerned about the risk of a back-lash against horses on the road amongst less-enlightened road users.

Otter.
