Another pony is now eating some of his straw bedding, going to see if jeyes fluid works to stop him. How much jeyes fluid to use and how much to dilute it by to spray a straw bedding in a 12x12ish stable?
Have never used jeyes fluid before as other pony who was eating his whole bed i just changed to shavings but i have 40 bales of straw to use so would rather keep him on straw if i can.
Also in New Lounge

I would not do this, I wouldn't subject a horse to a jeyes fluid environment.

My horses eat a bit of straw, never had any ill effects, as fibre with little calories.

In that case try Eucalyptus oil on the bedding, and make sure that your horse has good quality fodder.

Straw eating generally points to poor hay / haylage or not giving your horse enough fibre, if starving to keep weight down you may need to consider a different bedding.

iv used jayes fluid befour as my horse used to eat her bedding it,wasnt because she had crap hay but the straw was barly straw and she loved it but just sprinkled the mixture all over and she stopped with no side affects good luck

Toto used to do this but i used a product by gold label as it was a lot cheaper than jayes fluid, about twice the size and worked well

Used to do this for our pony in the days when shavings were too expensive to use unless you really had to (and really hard to get hold of). It was the standard method to stop bed eating. Everyone I knew at the time used it and no-one had any problems.

Generally mix 2 of the measure that comes with the bottle of Jeyes fluid to 1, 5l watering can and then sprinkle over the bed. You may want to sprinkle a bit, stir the bed, and then sprinkle again. Don't make it too wet though.

Jeyes fluid is great stuff - effective against strep equi (strangles) at very low dilutions, kills ringworm on wood, brilliant to stop fence chewing and cleaning stables BUT I would prefer NOT to use on bedding, especially if you have any yard cats as it conatins phenol compounds which are toxic to cats
