Hi all

I was having a conversation with another lady on our yard that has a colt re aspirations for the summer and she said she has been told she needs a height cert for her yearling to show him in hand in County coloured young stock classes. (CHAPS REG) also that she HAS to be registered with BSPS!

Does anyone know if this is right?

I have no experience of showing youngsters and my intermediate WH came BSPS reg'd with a life cert so I've never really looked into it more.

It just didn't seem right at that age and I was intrigued !

Thanks for your help

I compete in most yearling Coloured classes (under CHAPS and BSPA Rules) at most county shows (Herts/Suffolk/Bucks etc).

Never had a height certificate.
Never Been a member of BSPS.

I've competed youngsters in BSPS and CHAPS classes at county shows, without height certs and without registration - you only need to register if you want to qualify for the CHAPS and/or BSPS championships, you can still enter their classes, and be placed, at county shows without registering.

Horses have to be 4 years old before they can get a JMB height certificate. CHAPS only require one in restricted height sections and only for ridden classes.

To enter CHAPS classes at any shows (except HOYS quals which are ridden only so yearling not eligible) you do not need to be a member of CHAPS.

IF you want to qualify and compete at the CHAPS finals then you do need to be a member, and horses passport overstamped by CHAPS.

BSPS is nothing to do with CHAPS, so irrelevant to CHAPS qualifiers, you maybe mean BSPA which is another coloured horse society?

BSPS is a ridden only society also not relevant to a yearling.
