does your horse have one and do they really need one for showing how much does it cost to get one this is if your wanting to do riding horse?
 
how big is your horse? if your goin to be doin the large riding horses you wont need 1, but if your doin the smalls (anythin where you are height restricted) you have to have one, cost depend on if you get a life time certificate or if you just get 1 for the year.
 
If you look at their website it gives you all details,costs and which vets are certified to do it.Can't remember actual addy but easy to find I think
 
you have to have 2 measurements in 2 consectuitive years to get a life height, you get an annual one and horse can only get a life cert. if aged 7 and over.

not sure about the price however

I think it depends which societys classes you're planning on showing in as to whether or not you need one. Of course if your horse is (ahem) "up to height", it might be in your best interests to pay to start the process of a lifetime height certificate.
 
hes only 5 and doesnt have one so what would i do get one stright away ir eally dont understand hes 15.2 at mow but may make 15.3 as will have filling out to do.
 
if you want to do small riding horse classes, then you must have a height cert. for this year.

you have to go to a measuring date but make sure he has a microchip or else the vets will put one in on the day. ime anyways.

he may measure in this year but may not measure in next year, but thats the way it is

If a horse is a large riding horse, or any type of hunter (other than a small hunter) then you do not need a certificate.
You also need a microchip now to get a jmb certificate.
A horse cannot have a life height until it is 7 years old. A life height can only be issued once a horse has had an annual certificate, so whatever the age of the horse, it needs to be measured at least twice (by two different vets) in order to have a life height certificate.
 
It may be ok.I found it quite amazing what height horse actually makes.They drop quite a bit.Ponio was say 14.2/14.3 when we measured but actually only 14.1 under vet.
Have you had your horse properly measured or is 15.2 what you found yourself (not saying your wrong just once shoes are off and horse relaxes its diff)
Do you have 'measuring dates' in England?We just book in at vets.
 
thanks guys its abit more cleared now. Im going to see him sunday im really looking forward to it he may not be right but a friend said id be stupid to buy it if it wasnt certifacted but i disagreed plus i prob wouldnt get furthur than local level hehe
 
If you were really concerned you could test measure him yourself if you get or can borrow a decent measuring stick with a spirit level in. Won't be that accurate but should give you some idea or even take him to a measuring vet and ask if they could test measure him - without the microchip etc you wouldn't get a certificate but at least you would have an idea. If you are getting him properly measured it is well worth while spending time practice measuring him yourself - my horse didn't like the measuring stick on him initially but I "measured" him every day until he got used to it so that he stayed relaxed when measured. Wasn't a problem as measured in easily but saved us both getting stressed!
