This should go in the careers section but not many people go in there!!

But I need some help/advice/guidance/ideas etc etc you get the idea.

I'm trying to sort myself out with a job which is proving quite difficult, I will give you some background info, basically, left college june 08, and got a job in a local pub that was shift work and well enough, earning around £400 a month, I could fit in competing, riding and work, I also joined the Royal Auxialiary Air Force so have on going training with that.

Lost pub job in Dec due to credit crunch etc, worked on Nigel Taylors yard in Jan 3 weeks, then went 2 weeks training, come home and now looking for something as a job.

I am looking at joining the police so Im going to a recruitment event thurs, applciations can take +1 year, so prob will need soemthing to keep me going if I decide to go for it....but what, any suggestions? I don't care what you suggest as long as its an idea

it would be great if it was a couple days a week/shifts so I can still fit in riding and competing now BE season is upon us.

Alternatively, if I don't join the police I was thinking of cabin crew but no one recuiting at the monment, so if you have a job and love it, tell me what it is and why you love it!!

I need some direction!!!

any help much, much, much appreciated.

What were you studying at college? What qualifications do you have? What sort of career interests you...something progressive, working out doors, in doors with people, with animals etc. How much money do you need to earn both now and in a few years...perhaps you want your own place etc
These are the sorts of questions you need answers too as a start off.

Have you joined a temping agency, i know not many places are looking for temps but you never know. They may offer work for a week or two, maybe longer.
If you want to joing police, i would recommned you try lookin for work with the community, maybe something with the local council?
I used to work in a night club as well as my other job when i needed money, i loved it but you do work quite late nights!
I suppose it depends how much money you need to earn

Thanks for your reply.

I studied at OCVC (Oxford and Cherwell Valley College), I did Uniformed Public Services for 2 years as a National Diploma and got DDD triple distiction, the highest grade and points in my class.

I also have all my GCSE's A-C inc. English/maths/science.
And 2 AS levels before I left 6th form to go to college.

I would like to work outdoors, maybe with animals is a possibility, I like working individually or as a team, I like motivating people, and Im very determined.

At the moment money is not top of my priorities although it is an important consideration, I do have support from my mum in terms of eventing fees etc, I just want to get going with a good job that I enjoy and can give 100% to.

Alternatively I go for something similar like I had, pub job/yard job, but I don't feel challenged enough, the only benefits are more time for my horse and the ability to go off and do other things easily if I need to, e.g competing/travelling etc.

Its a bit of a situation really!!

Why don't you look at being a community support officer whilst you wait for police application to go through?
Not only do it make you look "keen" on the police job but it will be "work experience" so you can see if you enjoy it.
Not in this field myself so don't know any facts&figures about it.

So in order to answer your actual question ....
I personally work in IT. I had no idea what I wanted to do when I left school. I liked ponies & problem solving/computers at the time. So went to uni got a degree in Information Systems (IT on a board scale). Got myself a job doing computer programming.
Although I enjoyed this, I found myself want to do more "problem solving" so I now work as a "software desginer". Which means I anaylse problems, write a document/plan on how to improve on problem and get the team of developers to code it.
I love it. Plus its well paid so I afford pay mortgage / bills / 2 horses ...
Only downside is thats is that I'm now a bit specialised and I work an hours drive from home (and hour back again in the evening) and i really doubt i'd find a similar job any closer.
BTW i'm now 28. It that helps!

PCSO is a good idea as it is definitely a 'foot in the door', I am unsure if they have changed the rules yet, but I wasn't as keen on this role becuase they didn't have as many powers etc as normal officers, I will look into it further though.

Sounds like you got an ideal job in the end, im 20, so unfortunately im really still quite undirected, it drives me mad sometimes as there are jobs I can think of that I want to do, but each has some sort of limiting factor. I'm not easy to please

maybe thats why, but I will keep searching until I find what I want to do, why settle for second best?!
