well more of a general wondering really, what’s the max weight you’d put on a full up, well built and muscled, fit, mature Section A? One with a decent amount of bone?

I’m waaaaaayyy too fat now, but wondering what I’d need to get down to to ride one? Just light schooling/hacking to keep it ticking over for my daughter.

Isn’t just the weight issue, saddle sizing would be a potential sticking point too.

I’d be comfortable with 8.5 to 9 stone on mine if she was happy enough. They do have quite fine legs, so I’d probably put the same on a standard Shetland! The again I own a baroque Friesian too so most normal legs looks fine :p

The ones with plenty of bone don't have fine legs but there's a big variation in types- 8.5 stone ish for a good square 12hher already fit. Our full up one (unreg, poss due to height!) is about 280kg fit.

I would agree with others a well balanced 8-9 stone rider.
I'll ride little ones 11hh Welsh A's and uo and I'm 8.6 on a bad day! :) normally 8 on the nose :)

I used to ride a 12.2 welsh A. I'm 5'4 and I was approx 60kg (9.5 stone), I was a bit on the heavy side but it was okay because I was literally just doing 15mins schooling and really short hacks. I never jumped him and I rarely went faster than trot. If I had been under 9 stone I would have been more comfortable doing a bit more with him

Thanks everyone, you've echoed what I was thinking :) I'd prefer a darty but we'll see where finances are up to later this year!

When I used to ride little ponies I was expected to keep my weight at 7.7st max. I don't think I could have fitted in their saddles at more, and I'm 5.3.
