Ok so my other half has brought me some lovely jods as mine well.. They have seen there day and they have more wholes then fabric now, any how he went to the local tack shop and asked for a size 16 the lady at the counter told him "oh that is a 30 in Jod sizes" so he came home with a 30, now I am sure that wrong I was lead to believe a 16 was a 34??

Can any of you dear people please explain to me what size is what? As 1 I need to possibly swop this pair and 2 I am buying some friends jods for Christmas to need to buy the right sizes!!!!

I think it varies from make to make, and I've found a size 12 to vary between a 28 and 30. So for a size 16 I'd be looking at more 32-34 rather than 30 IMO. If the waist seems stiffer than usual, I'd get a size bigger as they're not S stretchy and tend to be smaller IMO.

I'm afraid the only way is to try them on - I'm normally a 12 on my lower half and I've got jods in 26, 28 and 30 that all fit well! Maybe a gift receipt would be handy for the ones you're giving to your friends?!

IMO a size 12 tends to be about a 30" waist. I think a size 16 would be more of a 34". I'm a size 12 (or sometimes a 14 after too much cake) and all my breeches are a 30". Saying that though, I do think different makes vary. Caldene reckon a 30" waist equates to a size 14! Buy what fits, and if the size label bothers you cut it out!

Depends where you buy. My size 16 jods are a 34" waist and no longer fit - now into a size 14, 32" waist in my usual style and they are a little roomy. My friend gave me a pair of 34" waist denim jods and I cant even button them up. They are lower fitting though and I have quite a high waist. Its a nightmare - clothing makers need to stick to one set of sizes. I go to all this hassle to lose weight and convince myself I have gone down a size and another style of jods has me at almost needing a size 18 which I quite clearly am not. Its depressing
