I need to invest in some new jodhpurs or breeches, a pair for every day and a beige pair for competitions. Does any one have any recommendations? I do like "sticky seat" ones but that's not vital, don't like the cheapy nylon/lycra types, but only want to pay a reasonable amount for them. I prefer breeches really rather than jods. My favourite current ones are a pair of the Just Togs breeches, I think they're a lovely style but don't really want to buy another pair as I haven't had mine long and the stitching has unravelled (not because they don't fit!! have had problems with my JT long leather boots as well

).

So, can anyone recommend a reasonably priced (since I have to buy two pairs!) make/style, that look nice, and aren't Just Togs ideally? Just having a browse through the Equestrian Clearance site ATM...

Thanks

I really like the mountain horse (isolde I think), they're really comfy, fit well and wash well. I got mine in the rideaway sale but don't think they're that expensive. Have you had a look at equestrian clearance (google them)? They often have really nice stuff on sale

Loveson Equitec wear incredibly well, husband and daughter have some several years old after daily use. They make two weights, a winter and summer, and do plain colours or two ways. Both prefer jods to breeches, but have got both types, they wash well and don't go baggy.

I love Pikeur as well. Just bought 2 new pairs. Really sturdy, great material and colours. Only thing is they have been rubbing at the knees but that is because they are new.

I use mostly Pikeur, but I only buy them when they are at the price I want to pay, otherwise they are way over my budget!!! I usually pay about £40 a pair, but patience is needed

They last ages and have a lot of different fittings, I use them everyday as well.

Others I use are Gorringe, and I've got a pair of BN Schumachers, they were £30 in a sale, but I don't know how good they will be yet.

I've always been a fan of Gorringe, but have recently been converted to Cavalry breeches!! They are awesome!! They have a synthetic suede seat - that actually feels like suede and is not stupidly sticky like some synthetic makes! They also come in a HUGE variety of colours - so you can be adventurous if you feel the need. My sister is nuts about the colour orange, so I bought her some in orange for xmas - they have a contrasting black seat - she LOVES them, but then she is slightly mad

I have a pair in Olive green with a black seat, black/black and 2 in navy/navy - they are SO comfy and wear REALLY well, even with the amount of walking I do at work - & I have big thighs!!

Meant to say the Mountain horse ones are breeches, I think they're about £35 a pair though so not too bad and really good for everyday riding. (I'm a bit of a fan!)

I tried the MH ones Sunflower, but I found the material on the leg, as apose to the seat (I think they were supposed to be winter weight, also from Ride Away) to be very thin and I just felt cold in them when I tried them on - probably just me though.

I'm a fan of Harry Hall high waisted breeches and Tally-ho heavy weights for hunting, both warm, can deal with being wet, muddy and blood stained and come up clean and wear well.

They were SO comfy!! However, as I bought them in the USA, they were comparatively cheap to here and unless I win the lottery I won't be having anymore for a while

I have 3 pairs of the Loveson equitec breeches and as HH said they have worn really well. One pair I have had for about 4 years and no holes yet! Got the other 2 pairs in the summer 1/2 price in the sale at local saddlery, one pair are sticky seat and they are very comfy and also very sticky - usefull at the moment as my horse has developed psycho tendencies!

Thanks for all the recommendations guys! Went shopping yesterday and unfortunately no where had much in

Did some internet research before I went and really liked the Gorringe ones and the Loveson ones mentioned by HH. Couldn't find anywhere local to me that sells either of them and needed some in a rush.

Ended up with a pair of Horka ones (never heard of them but were quite expensive and they look pretty sturdy, got a full suede seat so hopefully that will help my sitting trot!!), and a pair of Dublin competition ones as well.

I was just about to recomment the Equitec, they are fab and 95% cotton, so really comfy. I've just bought my second pair and have to say they are lovely and warm too!

Eeek BB's how did you wash them? I don't want mine to shrink! Well acutally the leg length could shrink a good 6 inches and they'd be fine but I need the width!

Even happier now as my musto snug johds just arrived !

Hi CC
I really think its worth paying the extra ££££ and investing in some decent breeches - they really do alst longer and make you "feel" better.
I have Cavallo Chagall fulls eat in cream for competeing (oh those were the days!) and a variety of Kentucky and Cavallo for eveyday wear. I do also have some Toggi (I think its Atlas) with a full seat and they are brilliant for winter wear - I am very impressed with them and they were only about £90 - bargain! I liuke breeches as opppossed to Jods, and I like some form of strapping in leather of them.
Get some Toggis - yopu wont be dissapointed!

Thanks for that. I did look at some Cavallos in the shop but wasn't keen on the style they had. I hadn't thought about Toggi, although should have done really as I always buy Toggi boots and have never been disappointed.

Ended up with some Horka ones for every day and some Dublin ones for competition (why oh why are beige jods so unflattering??!

I have some lovely lovesons for hacking and playing in - really comfy and in raspberry. They are breeches and were cheap - £16. I also have some 7 year old Harry Hall breeches which are still going strong and are pretty good - have no holes and have not lost shape. I am a breeches fan - I loathe jods but I prefer jods prices! I bought some Harry Hall Ascots recently but do not like them.
