I am looking for a cheap pair of jods but i keep finding reduced breeches. Never had a pair and wondered which were better, i know the difference but just thinking i might get some instead of jods as some are really cheap????

Jods are full length and you wear these with jodphur boots.
Breeches are calf length with velcro, and you wear these with long boots.
Wearing jods with long boots means they can bunch up around the ankles and become quite uncomfortable.
Wearing breeches with jodphur boots would mean there is a 4 inch gap from the bottom of the breeches to the top of your jodphur boots which would look ridiculous.

So decide whether you are in long or short boots, then purchase the relevant jods or breeches!

I wear breeches all the time, wear with my long boots and short boots (trainer type) and chaps with long socks for endurance riding. Much prefer breeches generally. Mine finish at various lengths, some a couple of unchecked above my ankle, others much further up my leg!

I always used to buy jods (in my youth, coz that's what you did then); then had a break from horse-owning and when I came back into riding again, the "must have" riding-wear was no longer long boots, it was chaps, so much more comfortable and informal.

I bought a pair of chaps, was comfortable, and haven't looked back!

I find that breeches are far more comfortable, and a helluva lot cooler, under chaps than jods are. There's far less bulk under the ankle.

I do have a pair of jods, plus some "riding jeans" which I can put chaps over the top, but generally I go for breeches every time. I've got short legs so they normally come down to the same length as jods anyway, but without the bulk.

Once you try a set of breeches you won't go back to jods!

Agreed! Still have a couple of pairs of jods, but I tend to buy breeches, now. Wear them with long or short boots (life is too short to worry about the gap if I've forgotten to put on chaps) and they're easier to get off when I get a soaking! :D

When the only decent fitting ones I can buy cheap are jods in extra long I take a pair of scissors to them just above my ankle, gets rid of all that unnecessary bulk.
