johm whitaker bridles, any good???

Personally I don't think they are anywhere near the quality of other brands you can get for the same money

Some of them are lovely - the top of the range ones in particular. You are paying for the name though!

I have one and have to be honest it's a bit disappointing. The leather is OK but the 'brass' buckles/fastenings turned silver very quickly. Hmmm. Sent this one back with a letter 'expressing my disappointment' and to be fair they responded quickly and sent a new one - but with different fastenings (ie buckles instead of billets). I couldn't be bothered to faff about sending it back so kept it and it's been OK. It never really looks nice and shiny when it's cleaned though - don't know why.

Wouldn't buy another.

hmmmm was the comfort 1 i was looking at at £185 ??? might need to start my search again!!! was inclined to think they were a bit "designerish" and would be paying for the name although the mark todd 1s are really nice!!!

Sabre are far better quality IMO. I have looked at these bridles before and disliked the way the leather had been cut, the stitching and the buckles were awful.

I have several bridles to include lemetex, devecoux, stuuben and passier. Each horse I have has its own bridle so I end up with loads!! But a good piece of tack should outlive you and I dont get that impression from John Whitaker bridlework.

Just an opinion in no way meant to be defamatory

Going to muddy the waters here....

Absolutely love mine, leather is really good quality, I abuse it and is still looks like new but is really soft and flexible. Gorgeous colour too - I've got the oak brown. Bought it because I particularly wanted the brass buckles.

Must say I've never been particularly taken with Sabre myself, always find the leather stays stiff and definitely not as soft as the JW IMO

Bought one, would not again, leather was cheap and never really broke in even though I did take care of it. Flash also disintegrated. Sabre far superior in my experience.

I think there may be some inconsistancy in their production, because I saw one that was as you described - hense why I had a look, However when I went to the store to have a good old look - nothing like it! Glad you got a good one though x

think ill go down the kieffer line now thanks for your help!! ive never seen the jw's in the flesh only online, might see if someone i know has 1 and have a look

Have four JW bridles and not at all impressed, grackle disintegrating on one and clip buckles both have broken when not very old on another, seems brown is worse than black! would not buy another

i have one and it fits my pony perfectly also the leather is really soft and looks smart in the show ring. it also makes her face not look so long!!!
would defo buy another!

also have the matching martingale which is the same good quality

Have seen a couple of beautiful ones, and a couple of sh!te ones!! They do vary alot!!
