John Whitaker and the fantastic coloured stallion Utah Van Erpekom have just won the 75,000 euro Nestle Masters in Sao Paulo Brazil. John had been placed with Utah on both the first two days and jumped him in his first big Grand PRIX yesterday where he jumped brilliently but just had a pole to finish on 4 faults. Todays class was 1.55m with 2.0m spread and a 3.5m water jump. Utah jumped amazingly well to win in a top class field in a time of 44.74 secs from Lauren Hough on Casadora. With Utah winning his biggest class two weeks ago (up until now) at the CSI**** show in Geesteren this amazing coloured stallion has become the horse those close to him felt he could become. Utah was jumping 1.20m in February this year, and John has done an absolutely fantastic job with Utah, anyone who witnessed Utah jump on the sunshine tour earlier this year could see he was a different horse, and his consistancy over the last 3 months has been very impressive and Utah will be a horse to watch very closely at the very highest class. John now has a very strong 1/2 punch with Utah and Peppermill.

Thanks for that Ken. Great result for John and Utah (who I think is a very striking looking horse), and hope the success continues as we are very short of horses in depth at major championships.

It is amazing how horses improve abroad. Is it the quality of the shows, atmospheres that bring out the best of the horses and the better prize money that drives the riders? Is because they are not competitng against the same riders/horses each week? The Quainton show had the feel of an International show last week and was very well organized and attracted a lot of riders who are normally abroad and it would be good if there were a few more like that on the circuit as I think that would help.
