Hi all, have just bought a brand new JW flash bridle from a private seller on ebay, it arrive today and has john whitaker stamped on headpiece and a small logo on side on browband with a signature in it... but ... although it is lovely the bridle it is joined at the nose band in a strange way. Instead of the noseband being joined to the sides by it being stitched inside noseband (if you see what i mean, bad explanation) the side pieces actually go thorugh the noseband itself ! I am worried that a. the bridle may not be genuine and b. this may rub poor pony.

Does anyone have a JW where the noseband is joined to its sidepieces in this way? if you look carefully at the noseband in the picture of it - you can see it is actually joined by going through the noseband !!

I think that's a new idea of bridles, meant to be a comfort thing (becuase you don't have mutliple straps running over the poll), doesn't mean it's not genuine (actually more likely to mean it IS genuine i think as they are more expensive when they're like that usually) :-)

I see when you mean!

I've got a few JW bridles.. all a wee bit different but not seen one like this before.. It mights slip when you are using it?

Have a look on the JW website and see if there is one like it.!

Good Point!! Never thought about that...

thanks guys, dont think my explanation is very good haha - it is the leather sides of the actual noseband which are the issue - they actually go through the noseband and loop round rather than being stitched into the nose band - pic below

Maybe it's just a design thing! It looks quite nice though and have seen other JW ones in that reddish colour, did you get it for a bargain price?

paid £45 and it was brand new, mainly it was the colour I was after as dark havana or black looks shocking on my few spot weirdo appy.

will try on carefull tonight (without bit) to see if I think it will rub, will be using it alot of the time with a grackle noseband so its not a major issue just a bit of a suprise and I havent seen any others like it !

be nice if i could get some gag cheeks to match ! mine are havana ! spose could use rope cheeks instead (mine are v old so will need replacing ) !

thanks guys

Can't see any that are stitched like that on the jw website, doesn't mean it's not genuine but perhaps send pic to them and ask, they will be able to confirm if they did a range like that and if not they'd want to know if their product is being copied

It's the massed produced cheaper way of making bridles and most companies do them as an option now, the other way is the hand made stitched on kind. That's how I make mine, I don't make the looped through kind as with time the noseband tends to droop down too much as the leather softens. The stitched on variety tends to last longer. Oz :)

After all that it doesn't fit, noseband too small, anyone want a jw bridle for 45, will even post for free ! Ahhhhh.

Can't see anything like it on the JW webby either, hmm, I think it may not be genuine, much as I hate to accuse whoever sold it to you for listing a fake :o small mercies that it doesn't fit though ;)

Its a full !! lovely leather but cant do up the noseband on muppet pony (16h appy) he is normally in a full grackle done up on the tightest or recently tried a rhinegold grackle in cob and that was perfect fit !!! it also came with rubber grip reins in same colour and they too are lovely.

will contact original seller to see if they will take it back, if not will re-list - gutted as it is a lovely colour and looked great on him !

thanks for all your help guys.

ps. was thinking of a trip to mole valley tomorrow to have a look what they have !

I dont think its part of the current range....and obv not really meant to be v expensive as the stitching is squint on the back of the noseband, and where the side straps go through the noseband.........it also looks funny where the side bit is. I have bought many a cheap as chips £15 bridle and the leather looks JUST like that. Its also rather furry looking at the edges.

spooky pixiebee was just eyeing these up (Equipe Emporio grackle bridle) - has anyone got one ? if so, is the leather good quality and do they come up big or small ?

thanks guys

ps just been to mole valley and came away with new riding hat which I had no intention of buying - but looked at the john whitaker bridles in there and wasnt impressed with the quality !
