Hi

Does anyone know if there is any difference between the John Whitaker Training Aid and the Pessoa? My Pessoa has finally disintergrated after several years of use and I need to replace it, and one is cheaper then the other!

I got one on ebay for £30, called a top flight activator? If you type in training aids quite a few cheaper versions come up which work just as well.

To answer your original question the I think the difference is that the JW one comes complete with a roller. TBH the copies you get off ebay work just the same, you do need to look quite carefully at them though as not all of them have the pulleys that attach to the bit.

You need five clips, one to attach the rope round the quarters to the back of your roller, one on each end of the side ropes and one on each of the pulleys to clip to the bit. If you still have your original pessoa just take it apart and replace the ropes, you will be able to buy the rope quite cheaply.

my ebay copy has pulleys and is elasticated round the quarters. Sorry had it a while now and cannot remember which ebay seller it came from. If you make one yourself you can use the elastic shock cord and cover it with a simulated sheepskin girth cover, works well. If fact an original pessoa rubber bit snapped on our yard and we came to the conclusion that the shock cord repair was actually more substantial!
