Good Morning

I have recently returned to being a horse owner this year after 15 years off after childhood, I am pondering if i should join a riding club for training events, and club competitions etc and generally knowing whats going on in the horsey worls
I was never really competitive as a kid and was never a member, happily hacked all over the place and a bit of cross country, local shows etc but would now like to do a bit of local dressage few clear rounds etc and wondered if being a member helps re local knowledge of whats on

what does everyone think of the benefits or how else does everyone find out whats coming up in their area? that is when the snow eventually decides to b.....r off :-)

Many Thanks

Absolutely - our RC send out a newsletter quarterley with all the clinic and competition dates. Also by meeting local horsey people, you will get to know what other non RC events are running, such as fun rides and local shows.
Have fun!

Go for it! I joined my local RC as a non rider initially, as I was literally just round the corner. I was new to the area and it was the best way to meet the locals! Haven't regretted it for a minute - my girls are now members too. I teach/judge and generally gopher when not riding and always have a ball!
I've even got myself talked into joining the committee - although I'm still not entirely sure how that happened.....

I joined one of my local RCs this year and have never been to anything...!! The SJ lessons that are supposed to be great value turned out to be (they didn't tell me this til I'd paid my membership) a total 10 mins of individual tuition in a group lesson for £16 each. I can go to a local pro SJer and have an hour's individual lesson for £4 more! I was told that they put lots of teams together, organise lots of events... not true at all! They sent around one email towards the end of the year asking for people to enter something as individuals if they were jumping 3ft plus however they wouldn't be altering their teams. So far I have seen them put on ONE dressage show in 12 months, a couple of Trec sessions and some SJ lessons with an instructor who has a terrible reputation locally.

Personally I won't be bothering to renew my membership, but maybe I just picked a crap RC! I am lucky that my yard is a bit like a little RC - lots of people who want to get out and do things, lots of competitive people to spur you on and encourage you, YO who teaches and also brings in a pro SJ and a DR rider for regular clinics, plus she teaches XC away from the yard. YO also runs regular events so I guess I don't really need a RC!
