Join up?

join up is what monty roberts founded. monty roberts is a horse whisperer. he watched horses in wild as a boy and saw horses sending other young horses away and then the young horse submits to the more dominant horse. he adapted this so that humans could use it to gain the horses trust.

Join Up as I was taught it is basically when you have a horse loose in a round pen (or enclosed area), you have a lunge rope in hand and flick the end in its direction to make it move off (ie. it'll likely canter round bucking etc.). You keep doing this until it shows certain signs like licking, lowering its head etc. then turn your body at a certain angle and the horse tends to come to a stop and approach you. Then basically it follows you about as its "joined up" with you. Obviously this is just a quick summary of it! It helps make a stronger bond between horse and person. I do it with all mine when they're new, mainly because I feel it shows me a lot about their character straight away (ie. some cocky horses take quite a while before they start accepting!).
