...is there any point?

Would be nice to meet a few more horsey people locally, but without a horse would there be any point (and would I even be welcome or laughed off the phone?):o
 
I don't but it depends on the spcific club as some offer lots of dismounted things, and also you could help and shows and stuff. am planning to start a club in my area for people with either no transport or not horse, so we can run lots of dismounted things and socials etc... sick of having no transport anywhere! you could always do that...

though pick the right one, they have varying amount of social sides and some will have a non mounted membership. :) my previous club did for this very reason :)

Also you might come across someone like me who is hoping to find someone to ride the pone a few days a week but would prefer atm to do it through existing contacts (ie I have done it through my RCs so far.)

They will also be crying out for help at shows/stewarding/dressage writing etc

oh and we also ran dog walks/dog shows etc :)
 
The riding club i joined has a non riding membership as they do a few social events like BBQ's, pub nights but not many.
I joined as a riding member but have no transport (for horse) so dont go to much at all really.
I think some riding clubs do more than others for non riding events.
 
Hi, Don't know about your area, but I know that the club I'm with (Bideford & District Riding Club in North Devon) offers a discounted rate of membership to non-riding members and we try to put on things for non riders as well as those who ride. We've recently held a showing demonstration (I didn't go to that so don't know much about it, but several people who did go said it was very informative). we did a coach trip up to Badminton this year, and I know there's a couple things in the pipeline including a talk on bitting and a trip to a local stud to see some of the foals and other stock there, and I expect they will give some sort of talk about what they do etc. It would definitely be worth asking around at your local clubs to see what they offer, and I know that if they hold any events, extra help is always welcome.
 
Depend upon the club, the one I'm a member of is based at a large equestrian centre and you can hire the school horses to use in club shows, that means that probably 50% of the membership don't have their own horse.

They don't have many socials or rallies or anything though. It is mainly just shows and the presentation evening.
 
Similarly to Katt, the BHS affiliated riding club I belong to in Hertfordshire are based at a riding school, so members can hire horses - subsequently 3/4 of the club don't own nags. May be worth enquiring locally if they offer anything similar - the BRC office may also be able to help? We also have discounted membership for non-riding members... I'd say give it a go... Enjoy!

I've been a horseless memeber of two riding clubs in the past.... had a lot of fun stewarding / jump judging / dressage writing that way. I still miss helping out at the ODE at Markyate.
