My gelding has clicky joints and stiff back legs [being kept in every other day dosent help]. Cortaflex is too expensive, [at 16 I dont really have that type of money], but I dont want to give him something that isnt gonna work. Can anybody suggest anything great-but-cheap?

hi, i used to work in a feed store and i got training from NAF. the brought out five star superflex. its the only supplement to be endorsed and recognised by vets and i was given some to try on my old welsh cob. within 2 weeks he was trotting up to the gtae(hed never done that in about 2yrs!) it has a really high dose of glycosamine and msm which repair and prevent further damage to tissue. its cheaper than cortaflex and comes in a liquid and powder form. well worth a try, my cobs on it permenantly now and going about much better than before. go to the naf website and give their free fone helpline a call..

nothing is endorsed by vets as no research has yet aggreed as to whether joint supplements work. The other big problem is that no one knows actually what is in any of the supplements. Recent research (EVJ) has shown that whats on the label is not whats inside the pot. When scientists analysed 32 leading supplement products none contained what they said and only 2 would have worked (unfortunately they dont tell you which ones they were!). Therefore it is totally down to personal preference. A combination of glucosamine, chondroitin sulphate and hyaluronan is you best bet (the higher the concentrations the better).
I'd add omega 3 oils to his diet - cod liver oil or linseed oil/flakes - as this has as much scientific backup as the joint supps and is a fraction of the cost.

I am currently using from the health food shop MSM tablets, Glucosamine Sulphate, Chondroitin and Devils Claw tablets. After 2.5 months box rest he is now able to have yard access. This was the cheapest option in my case as I really couldnt afford the recommended Synoquin from the vets.
