Hi - I've noticed that my dog occassionally struggles a little going up and down the stairs now - not very often but he's worse after he's been out doing a lot of running about.

I started adding cod liver to his diet a few months ago but doesn't seem to make a difference.

Can anyone suggest another supplement? Do you have to buy them specifically for dogs or can you use human alternatives?

Also, with regards to age, I have no idea about life spans etc - tried to read up on it and it all seemed dependant on breed etc - he is a medium size mongrel, at the correct weight and was 9 on 1st January - is he now classed as senior? He sleeps a lot during the day now but still loves to run about the fields etc so plenty of life in him yet

I'm not sure about supplements but our Border Terrier is 13 and on painkillers from the vets for the rest of his days now due to arthritus. Would be interested to hear any recommendations though

I would regard nine as old for a dog, yes. Anything over seven is classed as a 'veteran' in the showring so that I what I base it on, but glad to hear he is still sprightly, hope you get some good recommendations
