Hey,

So i've had a tb off loan and hes gone a little stiff.

Just wondering if any of you guys know of any good joint supplements on a low budget?

Thanks xx

To be honest, you get what you pay for generally. Natural horse supplies do a glucosamine and MSM mix which isn't too extortionate.

I used Super Codlavine supple joint formula for more than 20 years with my old girl. She was ridden right up until I lost her at 35 recently. That and lateral work was what kept her going I think. Then again she might have been like that without the supplement, but I never dared take her off it. I've just put my other three on it as it's one of the more reasonably priced ones.

wouldn't necessarily say you get what you pay for, but would say is that what works for one horse won't for another. Trial and error is needed! I use vetvits equiflex with success and it's one of the most reasonably priced ones too. Could also try the equine america gluccossamine and msm, what I would always say is feed the loading dose, not the maintenance dose, this is when I have seen a difference.

I have to agree you get what you pay for as most of the cheaper ones are too weak / don't have enough measures of the important supplements. Personally I would go for a straight glucosamine supplement. ALways go for one which shows the ingredients and the measures of them so you can compare.

Joint aid plus. Doesn't sound cheap, but the company told me and dum friends that u only need to actually feed it at half tge recommended amount (u can always up it s bit on bad day etc). I have done this for and old TB and worked great. Also they tend to b cheaper at trade stands at horse events! X

Buy Simply Supplements human 1000kcl glucosamine and feed 5 a day. Buy cyte essentials 2kg packs of MSM and feed 10g a day. Much cheaper than any horse glucosamine/MSM mix

We've moved from vetvits equiflex to supplease gold as we've found that to be both more cost effective and is giving us better results.

We're giving a teaspoon daily to a 16yo chunky irish mare & she's much less stiff on that than she was on the equiflex. At that dosage a 1.5kg tub (about £65 best price) should last us for the best part of a year.

except then you're only feeding 5000mg of glucosamine I would assume, as opposed to the recomended dose of 10,000mg?

.

How is it more cost effective? Supplease gold £65 for 150 days at maintenance, vetvits equiflex £48.75 for 150 days at maintenance? Or are you feeding one at loading dose and the other at maintenance dose?
