Does anyone know if it is possible to overdose on a joint supplement containing Glucosomine, Chrondroitin and MSM ? By overdose I mean is there any danger of a long term 10g, 10g and 4 gms (respect) dose causing damage to liver, digestive system etc? My mare has been on Riaflex for a month now and looks to be doing quite well and I would like to keep her at the same level from now on in as she is very arthritic but am concerned about possible side effects? Any help would good from you guys please!:)

No known side effects but as joint sups are not pharmaceuticals long term side effects have not been properly studied. I am sure benefits far out way risks and personally I wouldn't think twice about keeping her on the higher dose if its helping.

Ditto the above! Have you tried changing her to the maintenance dosage at all? it might be that now she has it well and truly in her stystem she won't need as much exept for the odd occasion where she may have done more work or something...

Many thanks Sam and CB Fan! She's only been on Riaflex for just a month so will see how she goes when the weather improves and will try reducing. Kate Williams at Riaflex, who I have found to be really knowledgeable, helpful and honest says if I can afford to keep her on the max dose it will be a bonus for her. Budget isn't a problem where April is concerned so if she's good on it I'll keep going with it. I'm new to the H & H Forum but have found it to be an amazing reference and help so Thanks again!:)
