Hello,

Back at work after a lovely xmas break and of course the first thing I'm doing is trowling the internet looking for feed advice hmmmm.

Anyway my vetran is returning from his loan home, so I've got 2 horses to keep from the end of the month and am trying to get organised feed and buget wise. Bailey has always been on cortaflex which is quite dear, also after the sucess of my other horse Ryu been on the Topspec feed balancer I'd quite like to put Bailey on a balancer too, Blue Chip Dynamic seems like a good option, as it combines joint suplements with a balancer and will work out allot cheaper than buying seperates however I'm aprehensive to take him off cortaflex, does anyone use Dynamic,

Just for the record Bailey is a 15.3hh TB in his twenties at the moment hes just hacking out but I'll bring him up for spring and he'll return to daily work and riding club competitions (hes going mad being a hack hence why he's coming back!) he'll jump (Small ie pre novice) and have a blow out at the beach every week, hes a sound as a pound and loves working so I want to keep it that way!!!

A friend of mine has an arthritic TB too! For years, he had been on all kinds of supplements and bute as on hard ground he is very pottery though bright as a button and not adverse to putting in ginormous bucks just when you don't want them! Cortaflex really did nothing for him at all although BC Dynamic helped him a lot. She's now had him on Synequin for the last two years and never looked back; he hasn't had to have bute in all that time and he can hack out for hours and still be jogging - and sound - at the end. So that's all she uses for him now along with a small amount of BC Dynamic and he's never looked or felt better.
As yours isn't lame at all I would certainly give the Dynamic a try; it's got to be worth trying him on a bag or two at least I would have thought and Ive always had good results from Blue Chip.

Thanks allot for the response, I've just been doing the maths and to continue with Cortaflex and feed a balancer on top it'll be around £1.40 a day however if I try the Dynamic it will work out at about 90p a day so I'm definately going to switch, really looking forward to getting him back as hes such a great character and theres lots of interest at my yard from new potential loaners, I really think with a little care he'll keep going forever!

Dynamic is not actually a feed balancer - it is purely a joint supplement which means it will have to be fed in conjunction with a balancer - may make a difference to your sums

May I suggest feeding linseed. I get mine from Simple Systems as I feed their products, but you can also get it from Gold Label.

Has made a huge difference in Cairo, my OH's 20 year old clydie - he really moves a lot more freely, in fact I am going to try him off cortaflex this summer and see what happens.

It is also good for digestion, coat and condition.

I also feed Simple Systems Total Eclipse feed balancer which is brewers yeast, seaweed and linseed - my boys have never looked better. I add a little extra linseed for Cairo's joints and to keep Chancer's coat in top show condition.

Hi, i used to feed Dynamic to my older boy ( he's in his 20's as well) a few years ago. It did make a differance but not a great differance & it also helped to keep his weight up, he's TB who does drop weight fast. I did stop feeding it after i ran out 1 christmas a couldnt get hold of any.

I also feed Simple Systems feeds, this year he has been getting there Instant Linseed while linseed is good its not good enough to support a horse with real stiffness. So i feed Linseed & Extraflex HA with great sucsess, he's now galloping round the field rearing & bucking like a mad man. Which is great to see. Ive recently been told about another joint supplement called Riaflex which does rival Cortaflex & apparently is better.

My boy is doing really well on Extraflex HA but i may well try Riaflex in the future. Just google it if you want to have a look.

I found topspec was no good for my lad, sent him all depressed and lacklusture.. however he is being changed onto blue chip pro as a balancer and possibly BC dynamic added if he does well on the Pro.
Hes 16YO and an ex eventer and can get very stiff, got the vet out on tuesday as hes quite bad at the moment. Ive just ordered my first tub of riaflex after a recommendation so im looking forward to that giving positive results!

I dont think anything can beat NAF Superflex IMO. Used it on my eventer/SJer just as a maintenence (he wasnt stiff or anything) and OMG, totally different horse. Amazingly the horse who has always been cold backed has made a MASSIVE improvement with that as well since being on it. Dont ask how, its just works!
