Hi guys, I've settled on a chaff for my boy now. But he is 14, and looks older than he is. I'm looking at getting a joint supplement for him to help him as he ages. But I need to make sure this is safe for ulcers. He is being treated, and will be on a supplement after for it, recommendations for a stomach and gut supplement also appreciated. I just don't want to give him anything if it could upset his stomach or gut. I'm thinking of adding marigold and cleavers to his diet, anyone used this before? That looks better for his stomach as it's just herbs. But that's only because his legs fill up over the winter when he's in longer.
TIA

Do you know why he has ulcers? If he looks older than his years, have you tested for Cushings? I've found Aloe Vera juice to be very effective for mine, fir the gut. My Physio says, glucosamine is the only joint supplement with any science behind it, but no idea with it with ulcers, sorry

No we don't know, but he's new to me a year ago, and has moved homes with me as well. And with him being new there's been alot of food changes to adapt to him. As well as him having injuries that have resulted in using bute for 3 weeks.
I don't believe he has cushings. He doesn't have any of the symptoms. He's on the lighter side, not hairy etc.
When I say looks older, he's just quite grey, and gets a bit stiff in the morning. But still athletic, and can gallop/canter for a while, jump over a meter etc. So he's physically fit. But when in overnight he does get a little stiff and his legs fill up. No other issues really. The stiffness is literally resolved in minutes. But I'd rather have him on something to help prevent future stiffness, arthritis, and joint issues if that makes sense.

4cyte has been tested and has good data behind it. It looks expensive but the dose is tiny do it lasts ages. It was able to give it to my TB when both boswellia and devil's claw had upset him badly.

I second aloe vera to calm the gut.

Thanks. Is aloe vera good as a long term support? And how strong/effective is it? I was looking at nafs gastri aid or gastri vet, are they good? Ideally I'd like him on the strongest but also cost effective option. As he is a bit of a stress head, and is worked alot too, so I feel like he's quite likely to get ulcers again. As well as needing sedation for teeth, and horses being horses will probably end up on box rest once or twice a year 😅. Just want to make him as comfortable as possible. If aloe vera is good and long term, then I'd rather him have something more natural. But again, if theres a better option for him, that obviously isn't crazy expensive, then I'd rather him have that.
