Hi all, please be kind this is my first post on a forum!
I have a 24 year old Irish Sports Horse (Duffy) who has arthritis in his front fetlocks. He's very bright and happy and i'm told regularly by other liveries how great he looks charging round his field, although when i get there hes stiff and sore . I'd really appreciate anyone else's opinions and experience of joint supplements please. He's on one bute a day and Lintbells joint supplement (which i think has been ok), i've also tried the Equi-liquid Gold (turmeric & oil supplement) which i think has brightened him up but not made a great deal of difference to mobility. He wears equistreamz magnets which i highly recommend to anyone, although he wears them on his back legs as it makes everything much worse if they are on in front.
He had cortisone injections which were a miracle cure the first set and gave him lami on the follow up so no longer an option.
He is retired so i'm only looking to make him comfortable for his golden years. It's worth mentioning that i'm in regular contact with my vet and he's not my first horse (or golden oldie), but he is my first arthritic horse.
We've tried Danilon but it wasn't as effective as bute and he doesn't have any stomach issues so we decided to stick to bute. Also tried devils claw which i think is great stuff it just isn't strong enough now to ease him at all.
I know i can't cure him, i just feel so bad for the poor old guy! His mind and body are still in top form (his top line is incredible for a retired horse) but his legs are getting in the way of his fun!
I'd welcome anyone elses experience of supplements they've tried. Thank you x
