I haven't voted as I'm still not sure.

I have used NAF superflex for my mare - I noticed a gradual improvement over the first few months but TBH, the amount it helped wasn't worth it for what it was costing.

My friends has used the cheap glucosamine one - same brand as cortaflex but the cheap version - for her old mare who was so stiff and pottery we had started to suspect navicular and she showed dramatic improvement within days. But again no help for my mare. Will be trying cortaflex next....

i didn't vote as i've never used one although an old share pony used to have cortaflex and the difference was quite noticable when he hadn't had any for whatever reason!!
i think some work and some don't - it depends on the horse and the product in question i think...

I've always heard that they don't work and are a waste of money. Results seen in humans and dogs are for some reason not seen in horses, but thought I'd ask as peoples experiences tell the true tale

i have had my 16.1 warmblood mare on feelgood 30 joint supplement scince having both hind suspensories done 5 years ago.the vet andy bathe at rossdales was pleased with her progress and now i would be afraid to stop it.shes now nearly 17 and is a bit stiff but was jumped and hunted a lot before i had her,its difficult to prove but i err on the side of caution.

I think some do, it depends what they have in them. We studied this at uni, many ingredients, like Glucosamine aren't beneficial as the horses can't absorb them (they would be beneficial if horse could though!) Hyaluronic Acid is the thing to look for in joint supplements as horses can absorb this and use it to repair damaged joint tissue. So supplements with high concentrations of this should work.

There is an American company called Grand Meadows that do a good supplement with a high HA concentration called grand HA synergy which I fed to my horse after he had a stress fracture and it seemed to work very well (though could have just been time healing!) Also fed it to my olde horse in case of arthritis, it seemed to help him to. Though it is hard to ever know for sure as there are always other factors to take into account!

i researched what supp i was going to use, Glucosamine app. is absorbed by horses but chrotain (or something like that

) isnt absorbed, but i am going by the horsefirst info.

but the one i choose contains no selanium so there is no possibility of an overdose and the fact that it contains no banned substances

Rosehip!! works brilliantly for human arthritis and I have been researching using it for elderly mare and seems that although it has only recently been discovered that it is good for joints it seems to be working on horses too! I have known a few people who have tried all of the expensive glucosamine tabs etc with no relief but within days of using rosehip they canlt believe the difference! Will certainly keep you updated hen I start using it for squiggle!

LOL! A rather vague poll to say the least. I'm not going to vote, or read the replies, as it is impossible to say. Surely it depends on WHICH supplement it is you are talking about?!
