the official photographer at the show has posted pictures for people to buy that you are in? I have not given permission for my image to be used, no idea if that is relevant or not. I really can't understand why they haven't simply cropped me out. Why on earth would people even want to buy a picture of their pony with me gawking at them!!

Ha, sorry that last comment made me chuckle!

When you say your in them, how much? Are you faintly in the background or quite clearly can see your face?

There are always photographers at our local shows & they are there to take photos of the classes, surely therefore you should expect to be in some photos if you are judging?

Hmm that's a tough one. Not sure were you would stand on that one as if your the judge than surely you may be photographed as your in the comp so to speak. But as you say you haven't been asked.

I'm not an expert in this field I'm afraid. Sorry.

Its not the same but I used to hate it when parents took pictures of their children riding when I was in them. I hate having my photo taken at the best of times. I would think of those children looking back x amount of years later and seeing my mug in them, really makes me cringe!

My thoughts exactly. I hate my picture being taken!

I could understand if there were say bits of me and it was a really nice picture of the horse but to have pictures so me standing there looking very serious when I could easily be cropped out is a bit, well odd isn't it?

I have bought many many picture of my horse competing and the judge is not in any of them.

Maybe the photographer took a shine to you!

Years ago at my eldest brothers wedding a friend of a friend of his was the photographer. I think he did it as a hobby and new money was tight so offered his services.

Anyway, when we finally get the photos back from him we realise he took a ridiculous amount of photos of my other brothers girlfriend! (not the bride!) And I mean a ridiculous amount! Her sitting on a chair, her eating some food etc etc. it really was quite strange but funny at the same time. But as he did it for a favour nothing really could be said!

The photographer was a young girl!!

I've just had another look and found there is even a pic of just me. Eh? What is that about!!!

One of my fave pictures is of me jumping my old boy at a WH RI qualifier, the judge is very clearly in the frame, watching us with a big grin! Its lovely, she marked us very highly and if it wasn't for having a pole we would of won. I love it, always reminds me of a great day (3rd out of 20ish i believe) and the judge was such a nice lady.

Ah Perissa I'm sure there not that bad! :)

It sounds like the young photographer felt you was a key part of the class being the judge and wanted to show that. She may also highly respect you.

She may also have thought you might get offended if she did crop you out! I'm sure some judges would have complained about that!

I didn't think about it like that! I can tell you one thing though. I am not going to wear those trousers judging again, talk about unflattering :o. I wore them because they would not show if they got wet as we had rain forecast - LOL.

Lol. :)

Ive been roped in to judge at one of my local riding clubs show and I'm dreading it. Not just on what to wear but not sure I could cope if I get angry competitors fuming that I haven't placed their beloved ned! It is just a low key affair so hopefully I won't get too many divas.

Do you have any tips?

Is it only me who wants a judge's honest opinion? please tell me if there's anything I can do better next time or if my pony's hocks are too straight or he didn't move as well as he should!!!! I'm there to learn and get better, not to bite a judge's head off if I don't happen to agree with them :)

The trouble is that if you do say what you really think you often get verbally abused. I had a child's mother literally screaming at me in the ring a few years back because I said that I thought her pony was lame on both front legs. Someone later told the the pony came down with lami a few days later which made me feel better but as is often the case, it is the minority that spoil it for the majority.

At this show 2 people asked me how they good improve. One I gave some tips on how to improve the ponies appearance and the other I asked if she was going to have the colt gelded, when she said that she as I said that it would be the making of him - but to myself I thought that he really isn't colt/stallion material. She really did not want to hear that so I didn't say it. He was very badly behaved for starters!

At the end of the day it is only my opinion and the person can think its utter tosh!

That doesn't make sense!

She asked me how she could improve, so I asked her if she was going too have him gelded, she said that she was going too and I replied that it would be the making of him.

Makes sense now I hope!

Its not relevant - you were in a public space, therefore you can be observed, photographed etc.

I take my camera to lots of shows, and so long as people are moving around the show ground, then you can take pictures - Have got some fantastic, natural shots that way.
