Probably the silliest question I have ever asked on here but I just want to know how people see it!

So when you are jumping a 14hh over a 3 ft jump, does it feel the same as a 16hh jumping 3'8 jump? Unfortunatley I dont have one big and 1 small to try it on :P and what do you think when you beat people on bigger horses in a jump off? (or vice versa).. little ponies cant make the turns easier I suppose.

I guess its alot about how the horse jumps, how established their jumping is, how confident and talented etc but still..what do you think?

I'm having this at the moment. I've started to jump my big mare from my 14hh pony. The difference are (personality wise) the pony is very forward going and springy whilst the big one is very lethargic and needs kicking on and wellying(not medical related she's just laid back)

The differences whilst jumping is you don't feel a 3 foot jump is as big on the bigger horse as it does on the pony. The pony also feels more springy whilst the big one just feels like a big canter stride! (quite hard to get used too!!) I'm also finding the different rhythms hard to deal with as I'm used to the fast paced pony :S the big mare is really big and wollopy stride :S

Its been ages since I jumped a bigger horse (about a year and a half) and have recently been jumping a pony - and doing jumps at about 2'9 is really strange, cant seem to figure out the striding, and yes it feels very springy like you said! Hes a lovely pony though knows his job!

In smaller classes (1.10 and under) I think smaller horses/ ponies have the advantage as they can turn faster and are a bit more forgiving than bigger horses.

However, I think once the fences start getting bigger it is easier for the bigger horses. Obviously you get the odd small one which is good but the majority of show jumpers are over 16hh.
