Pidge

Ok so YM volunteered to help me and Pidge jump again after our disastrous XC schooling on Monday. So warmed him up and he got a tad excited as the big boxes were arriving as we've got 14 horses stopping at yard who are competing at Weston Park so had to remind him to concentrate on me!
then started with poles on the floor, YM has competed for GB in young riders at eventing and puts my riding to shame so it was good to have someone on the ground who knows what they are doing
She quickly picked up on the fact that because Pidge is a "cruise missile" and loves his jumping I just sit there and let him dictate what we're doing and yes she's right as I think ooh he's keen sit and steer when in fact I should be riding him and giving him direction. So we practiced slowing the pace before the poles and then over the poles which resulted in Pidge going
and sticking his head in the air
then we progressed to a cross pole in the middle and did this from trot and canter
with me putting my legs on 3 strides away from the fence. Then we had a double of cross poles and finished on these with one of them being put up to about 2'. I know the fences were tiny compared to what we have been jumping recently but there was no indication of any run outs, and as YM pointed out despite the fact Pidge loves his jumping he needs some guidance from me on what to do. when I left him to it he would put a short stride in and then the jump was
but when I put my leg on he jumped it really nicely
So cue one happy mummy
and he hadn't remember our problems from Monday so I breathed another sigh of relief
