hiya so my horse is in his late teens and although his fitness is great and his age doesn’t effect him as far as performance goes he can still fly over a 1.10 giving it plenty of room and he does enjoy jumping a lot. I was just wondering if jumping this height once a week would be okay due to his age i don’t want any injuries.
am i pushing him to hard ?

be guided by him. i jump my 23 year old, not as big as we used to but we have fun. we have nothing to prove. i am more careful at the moment as the surface on our outdoor school has gone a bit deep as it's so dry. i probably won't have a jump until we have some rain.

My 23 year old is still jumping BN and Discovery and he loves it! I don't jump at home though, only when we go to shows once every 2 weeks. This is more because he doesn't need to jump at home and is better when he's fresh. If your horse is still enjoying it then yes I'd say go for it!

You say your arena is sand and so you don't jump on it when it's wet, just be aware that dry sand can ride deep and unstable and so put a lot of strain on muscles, tendons & ligaments.. Think which is harder for you to jog on at the beach, dry sand the water doesn't reach or wet stuff where the tide has been. Though I'm not saying jump him on sand that's ver hard either.

If you are going to shows it is an idea to keep your warm up to the minimum you can get away with too. The ground in the warm up is often not as good as that in the arena.

Mine is 18 and loves his job , i dodnt jump at home , careful what ground he jumps on , good joint care , massager / leg clay and water treadmill and vita floor xx
