Just joined the forum so thought I’d say hello.

After visiting my horsey friend a few weeks ago it’s reinvigorated my desire to have a horse again after 20 years. I rode from the age of around 8 for a good 10 years. Had our own horses plus a couple of loans on the same yard, did pony club etc so I’m not a novice just a little bit rusty.

I know from experience that good horses are generally sold through word of mouth, so how do I get back into the horsey crowd without a horse or having to plod around on riding school horses? Horses were advertised in the Saturday paper last time I bought one!

Joining your local horsey FB group is the best way if you want to find a share. There are always people looking for help in exchange for riding :)

Hi! I was in exactly the same position as you a few years ago - I went to watch my sister in law ride and suddenly had itchy feet that I wanted to get back into it again. I started having riding lessons and when we moved house I found a neighbour with an elderly Connemara who I exercised for a while. I then loaned a horse for a year before finally finding my new friend! It took me ages to find the right horse but by sharing and loaning I worked out what I was looking for. I would definitely recommend trying lessons, seeing if there is a local riding club and watching local facebook groups for people looking for help exercising horses.
Good luck!
