Basically as title lol,
I've had my 4 rising 5 year old for around a month now and we are starting to do a little bit more (age appropriate) fast work and jumping now that we know each other better. However she is very blood and finds it super exciting, and just wants to go fast. I've been doing lots of polework and flatwork interspersed within jumping sessions to try and slow it all down and make it more 'boring' for her but am questioning my bit currently.
I have her in a bevel / loop ring snaffle which I have on the snaffle setting for flatwork and schooling, which she goes nicely in, then put it onto the loops for jumping, but could do with a bit more brakes when doing more exciting work. She was in a Universal when I tried her on sales livery which I thought she didn't like and was too much for her, the second you took up any rein contact she completely shut down and tuck her nose into her chest, losing all drive from the back end basically.
I'm thinking maybe a Baucher / Hanging cheek would work better? Any other recommendations would be much appreciated, thank you in advance

It’s hard to get the right balance you want with a young horse .

I would try a dr Bristol it’s an old fashioned choice but they are often work.
I also find the simple thinnest myler comfort snaffle sometimes is just enough .
Perhaps a Waterford a loose ringed one I like the neule Schule ones as they have a longer piece of smooth metal at the join to ring and they are less likely to rub .
IF a universal did not work your options are limited to bits that don’t use poll pressure .

My exceptionally buzzy, gets strong but sensitive in the mouth (shortens neck and curls) young horse - Trust innocence soft/flexi has been a game changer. Eggbut for flat/sj and the universal type for xc/fast stuff.

(It’s given her more confidence to the contact so you can actually take it and ride the hind leg into the hand)
