So trundled off to Addington today to give the horse her first run of the season! Just decided to do the intro (or should I say BE 90?) as she hasn’t been out competing since before Christmas. (Bit of background, aiming for BE 100 this year but starting the season at Intro. She’s 7 this year and typically verges on having less confidence than being over confident. She tends to add in short ones which is where things start to go wrong.)

Could you please give me some cc on these videos? Both jumping ones, I decided to do the xc again as the first time I didn’t feel like it was as good as it could have been. Just not going forward and being green. What do I need to improve? Exactly how bad is my lower leg position?

Show jumping I thought was okay but the doubles were on a very long one stride and therefore we got into trouble on the second double when she decided to put a second stride in, resulting in us taking out the second part. Any advice on how I could have stopped that? She took a long one into the first double and cleared it but I wouldn’t have said it looked stylish!

Many thanks!

What a lovely honest girl you have!! I really like her, she is not rushing and is listening to you.

The only thing that I would do is lots more pole work with her for showjumping and let her learn to sort her stride out for x country (but thats just my opinion!!)

Good Luck!

I think you're looking too far into things, from what I can see they were three very nice rounds!
The mare I used to ride always used to put in short strides and I found that pushing for a long stride through long strided doubles made her jump very flat so I would collect for two "short" strides, normal for her and it worked perfectly.
Your lower leg doesn't move, well done.
Good luck for the BE100's
