hello

my friend has a 16.2 irish draught x cleveland bay 7 yrs old, king of diamond bloodlines (shojumping lines) but she was al for jumping doing 1 m 20 tracks and got this new horse and is soo hesitant about jumping, he will go up to it and will hesitate she rides him up to it and he jumps it how cn we get him to have more ummmppphh up to the jumps thnks x x

Is he spooky? My horse has had this 'way' of jumping ever since I've had him to be honest cos he likes to have a look at everything first! It is very frustrating especially when wanting to get decent strides etc. However, he generally jumps clear (somehow!) but actually jumped better the bigger the fences - think makes him concentrate more and stop pratting about as he's not actually scared of anything!

I would get some decent lesson with a decent SJ instructor - maybe your friend needs to hold him a bit more, help him come into the fence. Try and find his rythym see what he's comfortable with. Horses' jumping style differ so much so you need to work with it, if he's jumpong comfortably this way then maybe try gridworks, altering the striding, encourage him to stretch more, that sort of thing.

Def get someone a lot more experienced with a trained eye to advise you, even get on him to see how he feels.

he knocks the little jumps say 60cm but then when u knock them up to like 1m20 hell jump them but will go so slow and u think he nt going to do it and i mean slow but on the ground he is soo foward going lol he not scared i dont think just a prat

what has the horse actually done before? if your friend isnt riding confidently up to a 1.20m jump then the horse aint gonna jump in confidently.

why dont u try setting up a grid putting the jump down a bit and jumping welcoming jumps untill he feels more confident.
