One canter stride for a horse is 12ft - or 4 human paces. Allow 6 foot for landing and take off, so the striding for a double with once stride would be 8 paces from fence to fence :)

Trotting poles I don't know, I don't really bother with them.

Distances for a horse is 12ft (4 of my steps) for each stride, then 2 for take off and 2 for landing. So 8 steps for a one stride double, 12 steps for a 2 stride double etc.
