ok, so i got to grips with trotting pole distances now. so how much distance should there be for one stride between two jumps, for a 13.3 pony. two of my normal steps were enough for trot poles, making him stretch slightly.

for a bounce it is 4 and for a double it is 8. 4 steps is 1 stride so you need 1/2 a stride for take off and landing (each) and 4 more steps to make it a one a strided double if that makes sense.

as he is a 13hh pony it is slightly different to horses as shorter strided
so her i go if i can rember form being on ponies

a horses stride is 12 ft so if you walk down a standard size pole that equals a horses stride a ponie will vary from 10 ft to 11ft quite a big difference

bounce horse or pony 12ft 4 equal strides two for landing and two for take off same for horse and pony

doubble 2 strides for landing and for a pony i have always done 3 of my strides and then 2 for take off

to make the distance bigger just keep adding another 3 of you strides but remember the 2 for landing and take off

just remember in affiliated jumping they like to put that odd wrong stride in so good to practice that too

good luck and have fun :D

Hi, Ive just seen your post and thought you might be interested in a set of books I have. The books are full of gridwork exercises and show jumping exercises and they give individual distances for 12.2, 13.2 , 14.2 ponies & horses. I bought them from the internet christmas time and find them really good because you can take the laminated pages outside to refer to when you are building jumping exercises. The website I got them from was called www.gridworkforhorses.co.uk. Good luck.
