Jumping Heights

Can someone tell me how jump heights are set?

The heights seem to be different at different venues! Today I was watching a local event (2ft3 class) and was told that the jump cups were placed at 2'3 - which would mean with the poles on top, the jumps were 3 inches higher. Is this right??

The height of the jump is measured in the middle of the jump from the floor to the top of the obstacle whether it be a pole, plank etc. Therefore the cups for a 2'6" jump would be approx 2'3" from the ground - assuming the ground across the jump from wing to wing was level (as it should be).

At affiliated shows the jumps are measured from the top of the poles, thats the correct way as its the jump height not the cup height. I have pulled a jump builder up at a show before for doing this in a very small class stated as 1'6 and they were measuring from the cup as i was putting my young daughter in the class. I pointed the the schedule stating it said jump height. They did put the jumps down eventually.

The thing is they can do what they please more at unaffiliated show as theres not as many set rules as affiliated, at another show i may not have been so lucky to get them to lower the jumps.
