My mare is a 14.2hh arab. She gets too excited over jumping, the first few jumps she is fine, then she gets faster and stronger to them. I have to attempt to walk to them.

I don't want to put stronger bits in her mouth as she hated the french link when i first put it in her. Just wondering what excercises may help?

Thanks

Hi, My gelding does the same thing to me and i eventually sought the help of my instructor friend. He worked with me to calm the horse down by using alot of trotting poles on short circles as my lad always rushes and we end up going sideways to the fence with alot of resistence. After the first 10 mins he got used to working around the jumps and actually riding over the poles without 'bunny hopping' them. we also raised the poles on one end, opposite end to the pole in front, so that he had to engage all legs and concntrate which also allowed me to concentrate on my aids to him without 'fighting' against him. Maybe try a few trotting poles prior to each jump so she cant rush them and also come shorter on your circles so she doesnt have as much time to rush the fence. It's amazing how simple these are but how great they work. What type of bit do you current use, does she just rush the fence or also carry her head high? I changed my bit to a frenchlink hanging cheek for the little bit more poll pressure without being harsh and he loves it. Good Luck xXx
